Painting at Tulsa's Purple Glaze Studios

By Kayleigh Thesenvitz
The studio was readily equipped with all the
supplies you could possibly need.
My mother, brother and I crossed the bright purple threshold into Purple Glaze Studios on Brookside last Saturday.

We were greeted by a friendly attendant, who told us to look around the shop until she could help us.

Purple Glaze is a ceramics panting studio, designed for hands on creativity. The northern wall contains shelves of rough white figurines and pottery, each with a pencil-marked price.

I picked up a mug with the shape of Oklahoma outlined on its surface. My mom chose a jar designed to hold and dispense yarn while knitting. My 12-year-old brother spent the most time perusing the shelves; finally settling on a sculpture designed to look like an eagle etched into a rock.

The attendant came back to show us the color palettes on the south wall, and the various kinds of paints and stencils one could use to make their masterpiece.

Many of the paints were stuck open with flicks of dried paint on their rims, which made the whole shop smell like fresh paint.

In the back corner were peoples finished products fresh from the kiln waiting to be picked up.

We spent a pleasant afternoon inhaling fumes, but smiling proudly at our crafty creations.

The firing process takes three days, so my beautiful Oklahoma themed mug, encircled with hay fields, wild flowers and forests will be ready to pick up shortly after me finishing the next sentence.

Purple Glaze is quaint little art studio and a fantastic place to visit if you are ever in the need for an outlet for your creative energy.
Whether realistic or creative, how you paint is completely up to you.
