The Oklahoma City Thunder has
contributed greatly to the growth and success of Oklahoma, but fishing gives
the OKC Thunder a run for their money.
Every year, anglers generate $77
million in state and local tax revenue making it Tulsa’s recreational jackpot.
The Bass Master Classic will be
held at Grand Lake this year, and in 2013 it generated $22.7 million from the
event. The Thunder generates $157 million a year in revenue, but anglers spend
more than $800 million a year on fish related purchases.
Fishing also supports 11,000 jobs
in the state of Oklahoma, which is incredibly helpful to the economy. On average
an angler will spend about $50 dollars per fishing trip, while a Thunder ticket
has an average cost of $55.
A 2014 visitation poll showed that 385,401
people came to Grand Lake with an average trip value of $61.24 per person, almost $24 million from visitation alone.
