Tulsa By the Numbers: Education by Dwight Dobbins

Education is one of the most important, if not the most important technological advantage in our global economy. It always has and it always will be, but lately, education has been at the bottom of most political agendas, especially here in Tulsa.
Tulsa Public Schools’ Board of Education has stated in its memo that there are a non-discriminative system through race, religion, sex or sexual orientation, but it seems that the public school system, that is predominately colored, suffer when it comes to education.
The percentage of Tulsans with college degrees (bachelor’s to be specific) is 29.00 percent with the population being 25 years and over out of 373,657 total. And the percentage of high school dropouts, 9th to 12th grade, with no diploma, 8.30 percent.
In the 2015-2016 academic year, the average tuition costs for public colleges in Oklahoma is $4,858 for in-state applicants and $15,261 for out-of-state tuition.  Some of the neighboring states like Texas for example compared to Oklahoma in the same academic year with $5,084 for in state, and $14,590 for out-of-state.  Also Kansas tallied in at $4,428 for in state, and $14,045 for out-of-state.
