Tulsa: The Best of Both Worlds

Allison Dooman is a spin instructor and horse riding fanatic. When asked to share her thoughts about her hometown Dooman said, “I love everything about Tulsa. I love riding horses, and was on the equestrian team at Oklahoma State University. In Tulsa, I can drive twenty-minutes to the stables, and still live in the city. You can't get that in Stillwater. I’m close to family too, which is what I love most about this place."

"I used to want to live further away from home, but I love the community here. I have a really strong group of friends, and I really love my job. Oklahoma doesn't get enough credit in my opinion. I love how Oklahoma City has kind of gotten on the map, and I would say Tulsa is headed in that direction, too," Dooman said when I asked if she's ever wanted to live anywhere else.

Not your average Target worker

By Rebecca Reeve

She may look like your normal target worker, but once you get talking to Kari you find that there is a whole different side to her. Before working at the local Target Kari was apart of a side show that travelled around America.

When asked about her interesting placed tattoos on her forearms Kari replied “the tattoos were part of my costume, I have them all over my body, for the show I played a 7-year-old girl, so I would wear really big puffy dresses.” Kari then showed us some of the tricks she used to do for the show by pulling her foot to her head.

Now Kari enjoys doing activities and doing things that give her an adrenaline rush, recently she tried body suspension and hopes to try more things like this in the future.

Tanning Doesn't Just Brighten Her Day

By Brooke Berryhill

Mariah Tombling, manager at Baja Beach Club, has lived in Tulsa all her life and thought she's had seen it all until the day she stepped in for a quick tan.

Mariah, 24, is your average young adult who found a nice place to get a good tan with some cheap prices. Everyday she would do her daily session and have a deep conversation with the owner of the club. One day she came in complaining about not having any money and the owner offered her a job right on the spot.

She has been working there for three years now and continues to tan for a reasonable cost. Mariah considers her boss as her long lost grandmother because they do everything together.

"Every Monday we drink wine and watch the Bachelor," she said. "I love my job because my boss is amazing."

Throughout her years of working at a tanning salon she has received a Esthetician and skin care license.

Mariah hopes to take over the club when her boss retires.

Duncan man moves to Tulsa for work and finds much more

By Abby Hickman

Growing up in Duncan, just miles north of the Texas and Oklahoma border, Duane Harris moved to Tulsa three years ago to work at a local trucking company, but found love, friendship and happiness also.

After a year in northeast Oklahoma, Harris met his girlfriend who is a student at the University of Tulsa. Since they met two years ago, he has attended countless TU basketball and football games. He love taking his son, Malachi Harris, to the games. Malachi has previously been featured on the "Simba cam" during TU basketball games.

Harris enjoys spending his free time at local restaurants such as “Tacos Don Francisco,” “Tally’s CafĂ©” and “Ted's Cafe Escondido.” He considers “Woody’s Corner Bar” the best bar in downtown Tulsa.

When asked about future plans, Harris quickly said, “I’m not leaving Tulsa, ever.” His love for Tulsa does not sway his dedication towards the Oklahoma Sooners. The Sooners have his loyalty, but Tulsa seems to have his heart.
